HEALTH AND WELLNESS; HYDRATION

Hello everyone! Today I'd want to talk to you about something very important to our health and wellness: hydration. Hydration is the process of giving our bodies with adequate water to keep them working properly and feeling healthy. Water accounts for approximately 60% of our body weight and is engaged in numerous critical functions such as:

- Produce saliva, which aids digestion and keeps our mouths healthy.

- Control body temperature, avoiding heat stress, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

 - Protecting our tissues, spinal cord, and joints, which aids in injury prevention and pain reduction.

 - Excreting waste through perspiration, urination, and defecation, which allows us to eliminate toxins, maintain a healthy weight, and avoid kidney stones.

 - Improving our physical performance by increasing our strength, power, endurance, mood and agility

As you can see, hydration is critical to our health. But how much water should we drink each day? That depends on a variety of factors, including your age, gender, exercise level, climate, and health state. Drink enough water to quench your thirst while also keeping your urine clean or pale yellow. For most healthy persons, this equates to 8 to 10 cups of water each day. However, depending on your specific requirements, you may require more or less.

Here are some ideas to help you stay hydrated:

- Keep a reusable water bottle with you at all times and replenish it throughout the day.

- Drink water before, during, and after exercise to replace fluid lost via sweating.

- Drink water instead of sugary drinks like soda, juice, and energy drinks. These drinks can increase your calorie and sugar intake while also dehydrating you.

- Infuse your water with fruits, vegetables, herbs, or spices to add flavour. Try cucumber water (shown), lemon water, mint water, or ginger water, for example.

- Consume more water-containing foods such as fruits, vegetables, soups, and yoghurt. These foods can supply up to 20% of your daily water requirements.

I hope this post has helped you understand the importance of hydration and how to stay hydrated. Now I'd want to hear from you: What are some of the advantages of hydration that you've discovered?
